crawl space

Inspired by Francesca Woodman’s photography, Jackie Kennedy’s eccentric relatives, and a certain Long Island estate, in the midst of a Santa Cruz summer, we sought to create a similarly disquieting scene. This entire year has given way to a resounding kind of unheimlich: the world is uncanny. In quarantine one naturally feels trapped although somehow everything is still lurching forward. All the markers of the passage of time, measures that the world is still moving, have been suspended. Nightmarish feelings of claustrophobia, isolation, surveillance, and confusion have permeated the pandemic and we are constantly reminded that there is no end in sight. Happy Halloween.
